Triton Logging is the world leader in the design and manufacture of underwater logging equipment, Using its patented Sawfish™ Underwater Harvester system, Triton recovers standing forests flooded by dam reservoirs in a safe, economical and environmentally-friendly manner...

Triton’s Sawfish™ Underwater Harvester represents the first true arrival of viable marine technology in underwater forests. Developed and manufactured by Triton, it is the world’s only deep-water logging machine, combining proven elements from timber-harvesting and submarine vehicle technology on an innovative platform.

Competitive Advantages

Deepwater Access The Sawfish™ not only navigates precisely by a remote pilot, it can operate to any depth. Alternative systems (grapples or divers) are limited to approximately 25 m, even though 80 percent of submerged timber resources are found at greater depths.

Economical and Efficient

While alternative systems use the same mechanism to cut and retrieve trees, The Sawfish™ achieves significant efficiencies by de-coupling the cutting and surfacing processes, enabling it to perform multiple cuts without returning to the surface. And with no new roads to build and no fires or pests to control, Triton’s system becomes even more economical.

Safety

Triton’s harvesting operation does not involve falling trees or working with heavy machinery in tight spaces or sloped terrain. And by removing hazardous trees from reservoirs, Triton creates safer environments for recreational and commercial use.

Since 1998, Anna has written feature and news articles on a wide range of subjects for numerous local, regional and national publications. Her favourite stories are those of people with disabilities, entrepreneurs, socially and environmentally conscious folk, and women.

She has also taught English as a Foreign Language in Slovakia, and tutored immigrants and foreign students in conversational English and high-school subjects.

Today, Anna Quon is a full-time freelance writer living and working in Dartmouth Nova Scotia. Though she graduated from Dalhousie University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature, she considers her real education to be her experience of mental illness.
Having a mental health disability has given Anna insight into the workings of the mental health system, into the prejudice and discrimination faced by mental health consumers, and into the workings of her own mind. It has made her a more sensitive, compassionate and aware writer, especially when it comes to telling the stories of people with disabilities. 1

Before she decided to call herself a writer, Anna held a number of different jobs, including day care teacher, administrative assistant, fundraiser/ outreach coordinator for a shelter for victims of family violence, volunteer coordinator of a disability organization, retail sales clerk and communications assistant for a provincial not-for-profit. She hopes the job title of novelist and poet will stick longer than any of them. 2

Though Quon’s Halifax is a blur—this is really a story about the interior life and struggles of Joan, a jobless 30-year-old loner, who feels out of place in this world: “Inside I am dark and shady, like a copper beech, rattling its leaves in the breeze.” Joan’s fragility is protected by matronly Hungarian neighbour Edna, Joan’s British father, David, a staunch Mao supporter, and her mother Gillian, a Chinese-Canadian immigrant.
The world is rapidly getting smaller as we travel the WWWeb. Where else can you go looking for technical information only to find a family friend, who read The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe to you as a youngster.…selling exquisite bead work that looks too good to wear and wouldn't be out of place in a gallery.

I came across a site this morning linking to a place called Etsy & I had no clue what that was but it sounded intriguing so I popped on over to take a peek.

Well, as I was “peeking” I came across Wild Wicked Beads only to discover it was the online store of the same person who introduced me to a product called FIMO that can be worked in a similar fashion to clay. When baked it hardens into a consistency of …a cross between traditional clay and plastic. The polymer clay can be molded into a variety of things like jewelery, ornaments and baubles of any shape & size.

“LJ” taught me the basics & I was on my way; making things like necklaces, figurines and really great looking miniature heads & busts that I intricately placed little teeth & eyeballs in.

(I’ll have to dig those up & add a few pics here) anyhoo, nostalgia aside, back to those beautifully Wild Wicked Beads…

With over thirty years of experience in the art of beading [and a born artist in many mediums] she creates breath-taking works of art that can be worn and exhibited anywhere.

One of my favorites is one I call RumbleStone, but the official name is “WinterBark”. It’s a woven Bead Cuff that’s made with, “a custom blend of Japanese matte and raku-finish beads in gray, olive, plum, teal and grey and the center embellishment provides the “rough’ that gives the cuff its name“.

I just love it!

"Winter Bark" Bead Cuff from Wild Wicked Beads

As I am looking around I found what seem to be a really good match for the cuff. They are a great pair of earrings of, “custom-mixed plum, olive, gray, teal and burgundy Japanese beads..jewel tones accented by green azuro fire polished beads at either end suspended from sterling silver ear hooks“.

Again, I just love them!

"Winter Raku" Earrings from Wild Wicked Beads

Her work is breath-taking and worth checking out; to get these two items for about $100 is a steal. The time and effort it must take to create these gems is worth a lot more, in my honest opinion. What I gather from reading her Bead Blog is that it is a love of the art and any financial gains go towards a larger variety of beads and other treasures.

The online store is: wildwickedbeads.etsy.com and if you’re just Bursting to Bead LJ has a Beading Blog that has a wealth of information to help you get along. I’ve added a link to the site at the SideBar of the front page AMPwerx.

Do yourself a favour, buy these works of art for that special someone or pamper yourself.

When people ask where you got them Just tell everyone you got your Wild Wicked Beads from That Bead Lady who was Born Under a Bead Sign.

Do you ever wonder about how your content is used when you subscribe to a social site such as Facebook, MySpace or YouTube?

Hmmm...taking a look at the details of your contract every once in a while is good practice. Yes, I said "Contract". When you sign up for most any site online you are entering into a legal, binding contract when you push "Sign-Me-Up!"

Many of us enjoy visiting and using the ever-expanding world of social sites that offer instant popularity and social status among those of similar interests. You know them as facebook, myspace, youtube, and the list goes on… Sure they seem harmless enough, you go and upload stories, photos or videos of you and your friends; you chat with an old friend you haven’t seen in years or even meet that special someone & live happily ever after.

Think of all the sites you have to log-in to and ask yourself, “How is my information being used?” How many of us take the time to scroll below the big flashy “Sign-Up Now!” buttons to check out those small links at the bottom of the page with names like “Copyright“, “Terms of Use“, “Legal” or “Privacy Policy“. My guess would be a lot fewer of us then we would like to admit.

I’ve been asked why I don’t host my media on some of those popular sites for free instead of going through all the trouble and cost of doing it manually. Well, the simple answer is this:

It’s mine and I don’t give anyone permission to mess with it.

Let me explain:

Not to pick on any site in particular, but if I were to host my videos on a video hosting site named say, yew_toobe it states that signing up with them grants them things like “world-wide“…”non-exclusive“…”royalty-free“…”sublicenseable“…”transferable“…rights to go ahead and “reproduce“…”distribute“… and make “derivitive works” of MY Work.

The Pubnico Point Wind Farm is Nova Scotia's First and Largest Wind Power Development using 17 Vestas Turbines each producing 2.0 MW of power...enough to service up to 13,000 average households.

The 17 Windmills of the Pubnico Point Wind Farm potentially produce approximately 3 1/2 times the required amount of energy for all of the Pubnico’s.

100 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, or enough to service up to 13,000 average households

-Ghyslain Charron, Natural Resources Canada, June 1, 2005.

Now all along I had the notion that these turbines were owned and operated by the community -Great, the area can be self-sufficient and sell the excess to the utility. But no! I found out recently that the wind farm is owned by a company and it sells the energy to Nova Scotia Power (which is no longer owned by the province) and the families are still “ On-the-Grid ”.To Top It All Off…PPWF – Pubnico Point Wind Farm – Is Now Owned by a Florida Company.

The wind farm is located on the southern portion of Pubnico Point, approximately 5 km south of West Pubnico, Nova Scotia. The 17 turbines are situated best suited to get maximum wind exposure. (as depicted in the digitally altered image below )

The prevailing wind direction at the Pubnico Point site is from the northwest to the southwest. This is comparable to, but distinguishable from, data from Yarmouth and Baccaro Point. To further assess the commercial viability of the Pubnico Point site, AWPC engaged the services of a professional wind energy consulting firm to analyze and report on the attributes of the wind data. – source
